Upskilling for the supply chain automation age
Supply chain automation gained significant momentum during the pandemic, advancements in automation technologies scope and function has opened a wide range of adoption possibilities, especially in the logistics sector. Coupled with the shortage of skilled labour and advances in supply chain digitalisation, the return on investments for automation have become more appealing. There is an urgent need for firms to up-skill in this evolving field as supply chain automation gains pace. In consultation with a broad range of industrial experts five core capability were identified; analytics, best practice awareness, commercial acumen, systems perspective and articulation skills.
The logistics industry is adopting automation across the board, but the skills and capabilities needed to leverage these new opportunities is lagging. Workforce challenges, exemplified by a global shortage of professionals proficient in AI, machine learning, automation processes, and physical enablers such as robotics, pose a significant obstacle to the seamless integration of advanced technologies. In response to this, RMIT has co-created a dedicated qualification with Toll, TMX and Linfox to upskill working professionals. The four course, one year part time, Graduate Certificate has been designed to extend experienced logisticians capabilities in the areas of digitisation, automation technology, analytics and technology adoption.
